Citronella oil is also called vanilla oil.It is extracted from the lemon-grass by steam distillation. Its main component is citronellal, geraniol and citronellol.
Application
1. Citronella oil is usually used to extract citronellal which can be synthesised into hydroxycitroellal, geraniol and menthol.
2. The oil is used extensively as a source of perfumery chemicals such as citronellal, citronellol and geraniol.
3. It is widely used as an insect repellent
4. The US Food & Drug Administration consider citronella oil as generally recognized as safe (GRAS).
